Mahmoud Darwish Memorial

It was with great sadness that Palestinians and their supporters received the news of the death of Mahmoud Darweesh on August 9, 2008.  Darweesh was considered the Palestinian national poet laureate and was one of the best known internationally of the first generation of "resistance poets" after the Nakba.

Here in Vancouver, Canada Palestine Association and friends will be hosting a memorial for Mahmoud Darweesh on Saturday, August 16th at 7:30 pm at the Centre for Socialist Education, 706 Clark Dr., Vancouver (several blocks south of Hastings). (read more)

Israel shuts Gaza crossings but lets in cash (Source: Reuters)

Israel closed border crossings with the Gaza Strip on Tuesday in response to a cross-border rocket attack, but Palestinian officials said banks were able to bring in 68 million shekels ($19 million) to ease a cash shortage.
